There have been many advancements in the restoration industry. These advancements in technology and restoration techniques allow the professionals at SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton & Southern Lake Counties to restore your property back to preloss condition more quickly.

Moisture Detection and Measurement Equipment

Specialized equipment is used to detect, measure, and monitor the moisture levels at your property. For example, infrared cameras may be used to detect water in floors, walls, and ceilings and provide more thorough removal. Sensitive moisture detectors, hygrometers, and other meters measure the extent of moisture saturation.

Water Extraction Equipment

Powerful extraction equipment helps speed the drying process. We may use submersible or gas-powered pumps for continuous pumping of high-level water or truck-mounted or portable extraction units for more efficient wide scale water removal.

Drying Equipment

Industrial strength air movers and dehumidifiers remove any remaining moisture from ceilings, walls, and floors. Proper drying helps prevent swelling and warping. High-speed air movers evaporate moisture more quickly and industrial grade dehumidifiers pull water vapor from the air.

Odor Removal and Deodorization

Water and fire damages can create powerful odors that need to be eliminated. The machines we use, such as air scrubbers, thermal foggers, and deodorization agents, remove airborne contaminants and control the air quality during the restoration and cleanup process.

Sanitizing Agents, Germicides, and Anti-Microbial Treatments

We use OSHA-approved cleaning agents to clean and remove contaminants left as remnants from your water or fire damage. Specialized deodorization products control odors from excessive moisture while disinfection products stop the growth of bacteria, fungi, mildew, and other harmful microorganisms.

National Limerick Day Fun

5/12/2021 (Permalink)

A dictionary word and part of the definition of limerick Can you come up with a better SERVPRO limerick than our attempt?

National Limerick Day is observed on May 12th in celebration of the English artist, illustrator, author, and poet Edward Lear (May 12, 1812 - January 29, 1888). Lear is mostly known for his literary nonsense in poetry, prose, and limericks.

So what is a limerick? A limerick is a short, humorous, nonsense poem with 5 lines - the first, second, and fifth lines rhyme and the second and third rhyme. There is a distinct sing-song rhythm.

Here is our first attempt at a silly SERVPRO limerick. How did we do? Can you come up with a better limerick for us?

There once were some techs from SERVPRO

Who had just poured a fresh cup of joe

But emergencies just can

Ruin your plan

So off they go to ease your woe

It may just be a silly rhyme, but SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton & Southern Lake Counties techs have left many fresh cups of coffee behind to run out to those in need.

The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) sets practical standards for restoration and cleaning. Moisture Detection and Measurement Equipment

Scientific drying principles rely upon specialized equipment to detect, measure, and monitor a property's moisture levels. Recent advances, like infrared cameras, can help us detect water through a wall, ceiling, or floor.

  • An infrared camera may be used to identify water location for thorough water removal.
  • Sensitive moisture detectors, hygrometers, and other meters measure the extent of moisture saturation

Water Extraction Equipment

Powerful extraction equipment speeds the drying process by removing the bulk of the water from your home or business.

  • Truck-mounted and portable extraction units perform efficient water removal.

Drying Equipment

Industrial strength air movers and dehumidifiers are needed to remove the remaining moisture from ceiling, walls, and floors of your home or business. Proper drying helps to prevent swelling and warping of floors, walls, and furniture.

  • High-speed air movers causes moisture to evaporate at a faster pace
  • Industrial grade dehumidifiers pull the water vapor from the air.

Odor Removal and Deodorization

Water and fire damage often causes powerful odors. The machines we use remove airborne contaminants and control the air quality during the restoration and cleanup process.

  • Air scrubbers
  • Thermal foggers and deodorization agents

Sanitizing Agents, Germicides, and Anti-Microbial Treatments

The use of OSHA-approved cleaning agents may be needed to clean and remove odors and/or contaminants on your property.

  • Deodorization products control odors from excessive moisture.

SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton & Southern Lake Counties Celebrates National Bring Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day

4/22/2020 (Permalink)

Image is of kids wearing capes and a caption about National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day As essential workers, we are using this time to introduce our kids to the importance of providing proactive cleaning services and peace of mind.

National Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day is being held April 23, 2020. What that will look like this year may be different than previous years for many.

2020 Theme - Meet The Workplace Superstars

The 2020 theme is "Meet The Workplace Superstars." Kids enjoy going to the workplace, meeting the people who work there, and seeing how important each job is no matter what level or position. Employers think of their employees as superstars because they are the ones who make the workplace a success. Kids are the future superstars of the workplace.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 theme "Meet The Workplace Superstars" can be translated into at-home activities. Parents are the ultimate "superstar" to their children, and being at home together presents a unique opportunity.

Are you working from home? Include your children today in what you are doing; share your experience. Are you an essential worker venturing out today? Recap your day and why your work is essential for your children.

How To Celebrate This Year

Since many of us are working from home, or it is unsafe to bring our kids into our workplaces at this time, here are some ways we can celebrate National Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day in 2020.

  • Develop an agenda that will allow your child to see the many tasks you perform. Throughout the day, explain the benefits and challenges of working from home and demonstrate how you communicate to clients, colleagues, or supervisors.
  • Teach your child about technology, communication tools, and other pertinent work skills.

  • Tell stories about “workplace superstars.” Remember, YOU are a superstar in your child’s view. Together, search the internet for heroes who inspire you.

  • Conduct a video chat with co-workers and invite them to involve their children.

  • Teach children they are the future superstars of the workplace. Invite them to create artwork that illustrates that future.

  • Shoot a video or write a blog post about your experience.

How We Are Celebrating

The employees of SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton & Southern Lake Counties are celebrating National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day at home this year. As essential workers, it is unfortunately not safe to bring our kids into the office or job sites. We are using this time to introduce them to our essential business activities, especially the importance of providing proactive cleaning services and peace of mind to other essential workers and businesses. We have years of experience dealing with biological hazards and remediation. Now, more than ever, we are "Here to Help."

SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton & Southern Lake Counties Uses Advanced Restoration Industry Technology

3/15/2020 (Permalink)

The past few decades has seen a rapid advancement in the technology and techniques used in the restoration industry. These advancements allow SERVPRO Franchise Professionals to restore a property back to preloss condition quickly, reliably, and more effectively.

The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) sets practical standards for restoration and cleaning. The IICRC S500 Water Damage Guide is a specific set of practical standards that incorporate the field of psychometry, which involves the manipulation of temperature and relative humidity to remove moisture and dry a property quickly and effectively.

Moisture Detection and Measurement Equipment

Scientific drying principles rely upon specialized equipment to detect, measure, and monitor a property’s moisture levels.

  • Submersible and gas-powered pumps for continuous pumping of high-level water.

  • Disinfection products stop the growth of bacteria, fungi, mildew, and other harmful microorganisms.

Why SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton & Southern Lake Counties? What Sets Us Apart

firefighters, smoke, house Firefighters battle the blaze at the home of SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton & Southern Lake Counties owners, Carley and Angela Burton

It was an unseasonably warm day in October 2004, one week before Halloween.

Who knew the events of that day would change our lives forever, in so many ways.

We're not just the owners of a SERVPRO franchise; we've also experienced a devastating loss of our own.

Carley and Angela Burton, owners of SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton & Southern Lake Counties, experienced a catastrophic fire to their family home. Everyone made it out safely, but we know all-too-well the devastation a fire (or flood, or natural disaster) can cause.

It's not just a 'material' loss - there is a huge 'emotional' loss.

We learned how many good people there are out there by the generous shows of support, many from people we did not know.

This experience with our own loss eventually led us to where we are today - proud owners of a SERVPRO franchise, so that we can use our experience to help others.

We not only sympathize with our customers, we can empathize as well.

Happy St. Patrick's Day from SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton and Southern Lake Counties

Think green this St. Patrick's Day and choose SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton and Southern Lake Counties!

SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton and Southern Lake Counties is thrilled to be celebrating St. Patricks Day this year! Here are some fun facts about St. Patricks Day:

  • St. Patrick’s Day is an annual feast day celebrating the patron saint the day is named after on his death date, March 17th.
  • Most people, whether they are Irish or not, wear green on this day. One of the Irish traditions is to pinch anyone who is not wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day.
  • St. Patrick’s Day has become a holiday all around the world and for one day out of the year anyone can be Irish and join in the celebration.
  • The leprechaun is a small Irish fairy. He is dressed like a shoemaker, with pointed shoes and a hat. He also wears a leather apron. Leprechauns are supposed to be unfriendly little men who live alone in the forest, spending all of their time making shoes and guarding their treasures. If someone catches a leprechaun, he will be forced to tell where he hides all his pots of gold. However, the leprechaun must be watched at all times. If his captor looks away, the leprechaun will vanish along with his treasure.
  • Since 1962, the Chicago River is dyed kelly green during the celebration. Forty tons of dye is dumped into the river which changes color for four to five hours.
  • The shamrock is Ireland’s national flower. It is also one of the main symbols of St. Patrick, which represents the Holy Trinity. The three-leafed plant is often used as a badge.
  • It’s a common mistake to confuse a four-leaf clover and a shamrock. The four-leaf clover is considered lucky because they’re generally hard to find.

Happy St. Patrick's Day !

Why Plumbers Refer SERVPRO

3/13/2019 (Permalink)

Plumbers call SERVPRO because they know time is the most important factor in determining how much damage there is to a home after a water damage.

Most homeowners have a plumber they know and trust to fix leaky pipes, install new appliances and help maintain their home. Did you know that most plumbers have a water damage company that they prefer to recommend? Plumbers are often the first onsite when a sump pump fails or a dishwasher overflows. They can fix the problem by replacing the sump pump or repairing the dishwasher, but they do not have the tools or training to make sure the surrounding structure is dry. That is why they call SERVPRO of Benton, Jasper, Newton and Southern Lake Counties. They know that they can trust us to remove any standing water, provide professional advice on what can be saved and what must be replaced, work with insurance to get payment quickly and dry the remaining structure. Plumbers are at water damages all the time, so they know what can happen if they are allowed to sit. They recommend calling us right away to minimize the damage saving you money, time completing repairs and making it, "Like it never even happened."

SERVPRO Works With Local First Responders To Locate the Source of a Water Damage

1/30/2019 (Permalink)

Our SERVPRO Production Manager is showing the local fire department where the source of water is so they can get the sprinkler system shut off.

SERVPRO was already onsite cleaning up a water damage when the fire alarm went off at this local hospital. The local fire department was dispatched right away while SERVPRO worked with the maintenance department to locate the source of the additional water. Unfortunately, the winter storm that caused the first water damage broke a second sprinkler in a different part of the building. When the fire department showed up, SERVPRO was able to direct them to the source of loss and to the room with the shutoffs for the sprinkler system. This prompt response resulted in less water getting out overall, and greatly reduced the amount of water released from the sprinkler system. The customer was grateful for SERVPRO's assistance. If you want to improve response times before you experience a fire or water damage, contact us at 219-779-7577 and ask about our free Emergency Ready Profile. It allows us to locate and document shutoffs for your gas, electric and water as well as put contact information for all the people you might need at 2:00am in one place.

Our Sales and Marketing Representative, Jay, said she thoroughly enjoyed the event. As we approach the holiday season, consider making a donation at foodbanknwi.org/growinghope to benefit families in Lake and Porter County.
